Holiday traditions in Hawai’i aren’t that much different than the rest of the United States. Contrary to popular belief, we use the same Christmas Trees as everyone else, and not Palm trees. Most “bigger” towns have tree lighting ceremonies and you may see someone wearing a festive sweater to keep warm (depending on the weather.)

Where things do differ are obviously with Holiday attire. As we all know, Winter is more wet in the islands than cold. Even though 60 degrees doesn’t sound cold to most, it does feel chilly when it’s 80 degrees during the day and the wind is blowing off from the deep Pacific Ocean.

Holiday dinners also may differ than your standard Turkey with Ham and all the traditional “fixings.” The Turkey may be replaced with Chicken Adobo or savory Kalua Pork with Sticky Rice. Hawaiian side dishes may include poke, Okinawan sweet potatoes and for desert you may share some Halo Halo or haupia (coconut pudding.)

Naturally, the Holidays always include decorations, so if you are looking to bring some of the Hawaiian Holidays home and you are away from the islands, take a look at our selection of arrangements, or unique Protea Wreaths and don’t forget to leave your shoes or slippa at the door! But no take bettah ones when you leave!
